Plant Starch

Our Biopak are plant-based Bioplastic look similar to petroleum based plastics, but are made from plants and are 100% compostable. Our Biopak product range includes items made from PLA and CPLA:

PLA

PLA (Polylactic acid ) is very unique material since it is made from corn and not petroleum. Regular plastics is made from petroleum while PLA is made from corn based resins which makes PLA non toxic and annually renewable resources. PLA is very environmentally friendly material since it is made from renewable resource – Corn. Plastics products may take up to thousand years to degrade while PLA products biodegrade within 3-6 months in a composting system. This material is made from renewable resources and it is compostable & biodegradable.PLA products are transparent and heat sensitive to 40˚C. Our clear plastic products are made from PLA, such as Bioplastic Bags, deli containers, clear containers, clear cold drink cups and lids. PLA is freezer safe , but not microwave  safe.

CPLA

Our cutlery products and coffee lids are made from modified PLA which is called CPLA. PLA products don’t offer high heat tolerance, and they can tolerate only upto 110 F. So, we make our cutlery products including knife, spoon, fork, stirrer, and coffee lids etc.from CPLA (modified PLA) . This material tolerance up to 185 F. They can be safely used for hot soup, coffee, and other hot beverages. They are also 100% renewable, biodegradable and compostable.

Why are CPLA & PLA plastics better?

They are made from annually renewable plant sources. Growing plants are better for the environment than drilling for oil. They are non-toxic when in contact with food. PLA and CPLA are industrially compostable. They will biodegrade if exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat. Optimum conditions will enable this to happen in 4 to 6 months. It is unlikely that these optimum conditions will be found in landfills. In this case it will take longer to break down, if it does at all.
